A well-worn pilgrim’s backpack resting against a weathered stone milestone marked with a yellow scallop shell, set beside a narrow dirt path winding through rolling green hills of northern Spain. Morning mist hangs low over distant vineyards and small stone villages. Soft early sunlight filters through thin clouds, catching the frayed straps and dust on the pack, casting long, delicate shadows across the path. Photographic realism, shot at eye level with a shallow depth of field so the milestone and backpack are in crisp focus while the landscape recedes into a gentle blur. The mood is contemplative and quietly determined, suggesting the beginning of a long day’s walk on the Camino de Santiago.

Learning to walk again, through myself

Walking into Myself

Life changed in ways I never expected, and now I’m learning to walk again- not through cities or mountains, but through myself. These are my daily entries tracing my path through the Camino de Santiago.

A pair of mud-splattered, well-used hiking boots placed neatly on cool terracotta tiles just inside the doorway of a small, rustic albergue. Beside them lies a lightweight trekking pole and a folded, slightly crumpled map with the Camino route faintly visible. Golden late-afternoon sunlight slants in through an unseen window, creating warm pools of light and long, soft-edged shadows on the floor. In the blurred background, simple wooden bunk beds and a hanging wool blanket hint at a shared pilgrim space. Photographic realism, shot from a low, close-up angle with shallow depth of field, emphasizing worn leather textures and dust. The atmosphere is intimate, weary, and reflective, capturing the quiet transition between walking and resting.
An expansive view of the Camino de Santiago trail cutting like a pale ribbon through a patchwork of golden wheat fields and deep green vineyards, stretching toward low, blue-gray mountains on the far horizon. A line of weathered wooden waymarkers with small yellow arrows leads the eye forward. High midday sun creates crisp, bright light, sharpening contrasts between sunlit fields and cool shadows cast by sparse trees along the path. Photographic realism, captured from a slightly elevated vantage point with a wide-angle composition, sharp focus throughout to emphasize the vastness of the landscape. The mood is spacious and contemplative, evoking the rhythm of long-distance walking and the sense of moving through an immense, ancient countryside.
A simple stone church with a modest bell tower standing on a hilltop beside the Camino at blue hour, its rough-hewn façade subtly illuminated by a single warm light above the wooden door. The foreground shows a narrow gravel path edged by low wild grasses and scattered rocks leading directly to the entrance. The sky is a deep gradient from cobalt to indigo, with the faintest glow of the just-set sun on the horizon. Photographic realism, shot from a low angle using the rule of thirds, with the church slightly off-center and the path as a leading line. Long, soft shadows and cool ambient light create a hushed, reverent mood, suggesting a quiet pause for reflection at day’s end.
A small wooden table in a village café along the Camino, set beside an open window looking out onto a cobblestone street and distant rolling hills. On the table rests a simple white ceramic cup of dark coffee, a crusty half-eaten baguette on a stoneware plate, and a well-thumbed journal open to a page filled with faint, illegible handwriting. Soft mid-morning light pours through the window, illuminating steam rising from the cup and creating gentle reflections on the tabletop. Photographic realism, shot from a slightly elevated angle with a moderate depth of field so the table is in sharp focus while the street scene beyond the window is softly blurred. The atmosphere is sophisticated yet unpretentious, evoking a moment of solitary reflection and quiet observation during the Camino journey.
